Glenartney and Beautiful Arran
Arran is such a wonderful place with amazing history, scenery and wildlife. We need to help conserve it .
Environmental friendly practises are part of Glenartney's everyday life. We achieved gold GTBS accreditation and but in 2011 decided instead to pass the membership fee to the Arran Trust . The money would benefit the environment more than a plaque ever could .
In 2011 Glenartney became a supporter of the Arran Trust- a registered charity.
Last year Glenartney donated contributions of £1000, this was partly from Glenartney contribution and our guests.
It was an incredible amount- thank you!
Our donation along with that of 5 other pilot businesses has helped to fund 6 projects. They are all run by Arran volunteers and have been match funded.
The 2011 projects supported by Arran Trust funding are;
- Arran Access to upgrade the Glen Sannox path,
- Roots of Arran - Path Construction on the Mayish track at Fairy Glen
-
Eas Mor Waterfall Path Restoration Kildonan
- Old Clachan Church Shiskine - Memorial Wall and Maintenance
- Black Grouse Group
- Share Arran Roads Safely (SARS) scheme for cycling safety interpretation areas and boards
The Arran Trust website has more details.
There are opportunities for our guests to contribute a few coins during their stay .
What do we do to reduce Glenartney footprint?
We continually source and test products and services that will help reduce the impact.
Some we do adopt, others will have to wait until a more viable product is found.
Most of the things we have introduced to reduce our environmental impact you should not notice, others will only enhance your stay
- Double glazing units have been fitted in all of the windows, unfortunately the old windows were beyond repair
- Our cleaning and laundering products are all environmentally friendly
- Locally produced guest shower and hand gels ( Arran Aromatics) in dispensers.
- Appropriate litter is recycled
- All food cooked and raw waste is composted, we use a green cone to compost cooked food.
